Spring Working Parties

Come and help keep the Lake looking beautiful! No special skills are required, just a willingness to get involved. Wear warm working clothes and stout footwear⁄wellies. You can also swim from 12am to 12.30pm if you are so inclined. On Sunday 15th April we will put out the springboards, so we will need a good crowd of able-bodied people (also the Lake should have warmed up enough for a decent first swim of the year).

Lake Opens For Swimming

Saturday 28th April 11am

Hurray! The Lake opens for a new swimming season. The first swim of the year always feels cold, so get it over quickly! If you do it now, the water will feel like a warm bath by the time June comes! Come between 2.0pm and 3.30pm to meet up with old Lake friends and make new ones. We will supply free hot drink to chat over!

Triathlon and Open Water Competition Training Sessions

Starts Sunday 6th May 9.30am –11am

Circuit swimming for triathlon and open water competition swimmers, every Sunday through out the summer. Open to all members and their guests. Please note, the Lake will not be available for general swimming until 11.00am

RLSS Open Water Activity Supervisor Qualification

Saturday mornings from mid May to early July 9am to 11am

We intend to hold the Royal Life Saving Society’s Open Water Activity Supervisor course at the Lake this summer. This qualification enables activity supervisors, school teachers and other group leaders who plan to do activities on or near water to learn important lifesaving skills and what to do in the case of an emergency. Friday Early Opening

Starts Friday 1st June 7.15am onwards

For the early birds amongst you. The Lake opens at 7.15am for swimming each Friday during June, July and August.

Midsummer Event and Late Opening

Saturday 23rd June

Have tea and cakes on the lawns, take part in the international plunge competition, relax to music. Full programme to be published nearer the event.

Long Swims

Sunday 15th July and Sunday 9th August (3pm to 5pm)

For two hours only, swimming members can swim up to the point in the angling end. Swim from 440m to 2000m or more. Every swimmer receives a certificate, free hot drink and chocolate bar. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Long swims start at 3.00pm, 3.30pm, 4.00pm and 4.30pm. Swimmers will be cleared from the angling end at 5.00pm. If you intend to do a long distance swim please start early.

Gloucester County Open Water Swimming Championship

Sunday 8th July 11am to 3pm

Teams from across Gloucestershire will be at the Lake to compete in the County Open Water Championship. There will be races for juniors, seniors and masters. Please note there will be no swimming for members between 11.00am and 2.15pm but we will be open early for members to swim before the event.

Diving Lessons (June, July and August)

We hope to arrange these popular lessons again this year. Please show your interest when renewing your subscriptions or contact Alison (Club Administrator).

Swimming Season Ends

Sunday 30th September

Came and say your goodbyes to the Lake for another season. Free hot soup and snacks will be provided between 2pm and 5pm. Anyone swimming on the last day will be entered into the AGM prize draw.

Autumn Working Parties

Sunday mornings in October

Really an excuse to extend the swimming season. The water temperature can still be reasonable up to the end of October (after which the temperature plummets!). You can also help tidy up the Lake before the winter sets in. No special skills required just a willingness to get involved. Come in warm working cloths and stout footwear or wellies. Working parties will be between 10 and 12 and swimming between 12 and 12.30 on the following Dates.

Henleaze Swimming Club AGM

Not just the formal business of the Club but a chance to put forward your own ideas about the Club, stand for the committee or just have a drink and a chat with other members after the formal business has finished.

New Year’s Day Gathering

Tuesday 1st January 2013 12.00am – 1.00pm

Get out of the house after the seasonal debauchery! Dream about the summer to come and, if you are a little crazy, take a quick dip in what is likely to be extremely cold water. Hot drinks will be provided. Please note, only adult members (18 years old and over) will be allowed to swim.
